Sailor Moon wig by Ashbrie Sailor Moon wig by Ashbrie
I made this wig for a friend. It was my first time doing complicated wig styling. I used to be terrified of attempting stuff like this, but now I love it :) It's a combination of Anime (the buns), Manga(the little curls), and Sera Myu(the curled pigtails) styles

I have progress pictures and a MUCH more detailed description of the construction of the wig on my cosplay.com account. See here: [link]

It's been a while since I worked on this wig, but if I recall correctly I'm pretty sure I just used foam curlers and blasted when with hairspray and a blow drier. After you take the foam curlers out, they will look really silly, but when you brush them down you should get nice fluffy raised bangs! It might take a few tries to get them to look just right :D

Great idea to use the batting as a base for the pony tails! Do you know how well it held up after the first wear?

Thank you! :D I do not really know how the wig has fared since I sold it, unfortunately.

I think if I were to do tails like this again, I would maybe use some spots of caulk for extra support--I think I only used a ton of hairspray and a bit of sewing here and there for this wig.

You're most welcome! I'm a huge fan of Sailor Moon, I love seeing how people tackle her hair.

Having done a very similar technique with my Hozuki (fox eared wig) I didn't glue the back part, and the hair spray is losing it's hold. That's why I asked, I wanted to see if it either happened to someone else or if you had found a way to make it stick. I've had to go back and hairspray/glue sections down so the hair goes back in place.

Haha, this wig was definitely an experience--it was my first complex styling job ever! (I loooove your Hozuki wig btw! It's gorgeous!)

Maybe try some caulk? Just a few small spots on the base, and then lightly tap the hair so it sticks but doesn't seep through.

I'm working on another wig that requires a foam base and am going off of a technique from Katie Bair's book which uses spots of caulk here and there. So far it seems to be working pretty well! Just make sure you don't tap too hard--I did a few times and the caulk spots ended up being really obvious when they dried, oops!

Yeah, I've basically have done that. I hate it when the caulk shows through =/ What I'd really like to do is undo the last layer that's falling apart, apply glue and hair spray again... but that can't happen. So, doing the spot treatment is what I've done to at least hold it all together. The Hozuki wig doesn't have a lot of lives left (the thought of remaking them is a bit daunting!)

I've got Katie's book, too. I don't know where I'd be w/o it!

Ahh what a bummer! Yeah, I don't think there is much you can do in that situation either other than the spot treating :< Complex wigs are cruel, fickle mistresses.

Haha Katie's book is great--It's so nice to have picture references for more complicated wig work <3
